How Long After A Dental Cleaning Should You Wait To Eat?

By July 21, 2021October 22nd, 2024No Comments

We recommend that you come into our office for a dental cleaning and evaluation every six months. During this appointment, we use specialized equipment to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. Then, we will clean and polish your teeth to remove stains. These appointments are important for optimal dental health, and after, you should wait the appropriate amount of time before you eat again.

After A Traditional Cleaning

If you have a traditional cleaning without any type of treatment, you are in luck. You can start eating right away, even though with your new, clean smile, you might not feel like eating. Your teeth may feel sensitive for some time, and you should avoid foods that are especially sticky, spicy, citrusy, cold, or crunchy. Soft foods, hard-boiled eggs, and soups will help with sensitivity while keeping you nourished.

After A Fluoride Treatment

While it is okay to eat after most dental cleanings, receipt of a fluoride treatment is one exception. Fluoride treatments help your teeth to fight decay, strengthening and repairing the enamel. However, if you are going to get the most out of this treatment, you need to wait for at least half an hour after your cleaning to drink orhttps://smilegeorgia.com/ways-to-tell-if-you-need-a-fluoride-treatment/ eat. This gives the treatment enough time to seal to the teeth. Even water should be avoided during this time.

Maintain That Fresh And Clean Feeling

If you like the way that your teeth feel after you have a dental cleaning, you are not alone. Many of our patients love the fresh, cleaning feeling they get after one of our dental cleanings, so they wait a bit longer before they brush. Waiting for 30 minutes and eating mild foods can help to extend this feeling.
